Ladytron formed in the summer of 1999 when Liverpool musicians and DJs Reuben Wu and Daniel Hunt met dual singers Glaswegian Helen Marnie and Bulgarian born Mira Aroyo. The name of the band was taken from the song of the same name by Roxy Music.(Wikipedia Ladytron)

Velocifero
Velocifero is the fourth studio album from Ladytron and their first to be released by their new label, Nettwerk.
In the Nettwerk band biography, Reuben states that "velocifero" literally means "bringer of speed" and is also the name of a classic retro styled scooter.
"Black Cat" and "Kletva" are both sung entirely in Bulgarian. "Kletva" (which means "an oath") is a cover of a song from a solo album by Kiril Marichkov of Bulgarian rock band Shturtzite.(Wikipedia Velocifero)

Cunningham first forged his relationship with Warp Records in 1995 with his debut promo “Second Bad Vibel” for Autechre, and since has directed a score of mind-bending videos for the likes of Squarepusher, Bjork, Madonna, Portishead and most memorably, Aphex Twin. MySpace

In 2000, Cunningham created a video art installation “ flexYouTube for the Royal Academy of Art's Apocalypse exhibition. His next two short films with Warp Films, “Rubber Johnny” and “Spectral Musicians”are released on DVD in 2005.
Cunningham is finally turning his attention to feature films and is currently developing a feature length script with Warp Films. Warp Page

sigur_ros_071_convert_20090303093754.jpg

Sigur Rós Page
what is sigur rós?
a rock band from iceland. the members of the band are:
* jón þór birgisson (nickname jónsi) - vocals, guitar, synth
* kjartan sveinsson (nickname kjarri) - piano, keyboards, guitar, flute
* georg hólm (nickname goggi) - bass, xylophone
* orri páll dýrason (nickname erm.. orri) - drums, keyboards

has that always been the line-up?
no, the original drummer, águst, left the band to in 1999 (shortly after the recording of ágætis byrjun), in order to pursue a career in graphic design. he was replaced with orri. kjartan joined the band around 1998.

when did sigur rós form?
in august 1994, the same day jónsi's sister, sigurrós, was born (hence the band name).

what does 'sigur rós' mean?
sigur rós translates directly to 'victory rose'. sigur rós was named after jónsi's little sister, whose name is sigurrós (without a space). sigurrós is a fairly common female name in iceland. you can find more translations here.

where can i get that song from vanilla sky? ("the nothing song")
the song at the end of vanilla sky (on the roof of the skyscraper) is called njósnavélin (a.k.a. the nothing song) and is the 4th track on the 2002 album, ( ). the song had not been recorded in a studio when vanilla sky (2001) was made, so the recording you hear in the movie is from a concert (the roskilde festival in denmark, june 2000). you can download mp3s and videos of this song through here.

what's that song where the bassist uses a drumstick?
this song is called hafssól (aka hafsól) and is on sigur rós's first album, von. the version they play at concerts is a revamped rendition of the song, and it has in fact been changed so drastically since it was recorded that the band have re-recorded it. it appeared as a b-side on the hoppípolla single.

what language does jónsi sing in?
on von, ágætis byrjun and takk, jónsi sang most songs in icelandic but a few of the songs were sung in 'hopelandic'. all of the vocals ( ) are however in hopelandic. hopelandic (vonlenska in icelandic) is the 'invented language' in which jónsi sings before lyrics are written to the vocals. it's of course not an actual language by definition (no vocabulary, grammar, etc.), it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument. jónsi likens it with what singers sometimes do when they've decided on the melody but haven't written the lyrics yet. many languages were considered to be used on ( ), including english, but they decided on hopelandic. hopelandic (vonlenska) got its name from first song which jónsi sang it on, hope (von). tracks 7-9 on takk are in hopelandic.

where can i find sigur rós lyrics and translations?
the lyrics to ágætis byrjun can be found in the lyrics section and (very rough) unofficial translations of them can be found in our elsewhere section. some lyrics to takk can be found on the takk section. you won't be able to find lyrics and translations from ( ) because the vocals don't contain lyrics [see question above]. title translations can also be found in the lyrics section.

where can i find bootlegs and live videos?
live recordings of can be found on various peer to peer media such as soulseek and emule, as well as through the ftp sites and message board.

there is a long silence in my copy of ( ), is this normal?
yes, that's what it's supposed to be like. the abrupt end of track 4 is followed by 36 seconds of silence, which signifies the division of the album's two halves: the "sweet" half and the "heavy" half.

where can i buy sigur rós's first two albums, von and von brigði?
you can order sigur rós's first two albums from the band's online store, called klink. please note that von brigði is not an original album, it's a remix album of von. there is, however, one original sigur rós song on it, called leit af lífi.

how old are the members of sigur rós?
* jónsi is 30, born april 23rd 1975.
* georg is 29, born april 6th 1976.
* orri is 28, born july 4th 1977.
* kjartan is 27, born january 2nd 1978.

can i use music by sigur rós in my student film?
you can use sigur rós's music as long as it won't be used for commercial purposes. if the film reaches a prominent or internationally recognised film festival, you will have to contact the management because we don't have permission to grant publishing and master rights to films screened at these kinds of large-scale events.

is there a sigur rós ftp site?
yes, we have two: (username and password to both sites is anonymous)
* video ftp: ftp://ftp.oav.net/sigur-ros/video/
* music ftp: ftp://ftp.sigur-ros.co.uk

is it true that jónsi is gay?
yes.

and that he's blind in one eye?
yes.

what kind of equipment does sigur rós use?
here are two very extensive features/interviews about sigur rós's equipment: sound on sound (2002) / future sound (2005). most people are curious to know what jónsi does to make his guitar sound like it does. he uses a gibson les paul guitar and a cello bow with a lot of rosin, through a lot of reverb. more details can be found in the articles.

do the members of sigur rós speak english?
yes, they all speak english. georg speaks most fluently (having briefly lived in england) while jónsi has the thickest icelandic accent (you can listen to the guys speak english in this interview). most icelanders speak english.

what is englar alheimsins (angels of the universe)?
englar alheimsins is an icelandic film by friðrik þór friðriksson. the soundtrack for the film was a score by hilmar örn hilmarsson, a famous icelandic composer. the soundtrack also features two songs by sigur rós (bíum bíum bambaló and dánarfregnir og jarðarfarir). these two songs appear in the climax of the film. for more information click here. another soundtrack that sigur ros have been involved with was that for the documentary film hlemmur, about homeless people living in the main bus station in reykjavík. this instrumental electronic soundtrack will be released at some point but in the meantine, you can download a song.

where can i get the englar alheimsins film and soundtrack?
on the smekkleysa website, www.smekkleysa.net.

have sigur rós ever collaborated with mogwai?
no. there are a couple of mp3s going around named e.g. "sigur ros & mogwai - luvstory". these mp3s have nothing to do with sigur rós, nor with mogwai. they were made by the korean band 500won project whose name was put on the mp3 by someone outside the band, which resulted in sigur rós and mogwai fans spreading the mp3s around the internet.

“Nicola’s voice is extraordinary, a sort of static shiver … as chillingly beautiful as liquid nitrogen sculpture.” (David Stubbs, Melody Maker)

nicola hitchcock website here Q&A
Q. Perhaps to give a little more in depth insight as to where you’re coming from musically, did you pursue anything in particular before you got into the music or was music the first thing that really caught your interest? (In other words, where did it begin with you musically?)

A. I always played and sung music, from a very young age it was a source of joy and solace for me.. just me and my guitar
I could play and sing for hours on my own quite happily. It took me a while to think about it as a career. Career or job/work was always secondary to singing and playing and having the time to do that. So work was always a means to an end basically paying the rent. When I was at school I had an idea that I wanted to teach infant children, specializing in music .. but I went to train to do that in later years and found myself a square peg in a round hole ? I left after the first year but during that year I did get to study alongside degree music students so learnt all about classical composition, brushed up my keyboard skills and was taught opera singing which was a wonderful expericene as I had a lovely and enthusiastic teacher and I really wanted to learn.

I Forgive Me

listen to me
far as i can see you’re a lot like me
and since i thought you knew
just to tell a soul
thought it wouldn’t be it shouldn’t be a sin
forgive me

for thinking i ever did you wrong i forgive me
for thinking i ever did you harm i forgive me

listen to you
silence is in me and i meant no harm
and since i know you well
just a little thing like this shouldn’t be it shouldn’t be a sin
forgive me

when you find what you need i won’t be there
caught up in the world i’m trying

Stéphane Pompougnac is a French house DJ, and also a musician, composer and producer. He is famous for mixing the Hôtel Costes series - a series of compilations of downtempo style tracks.
(Wikipedia stéphane pompougnac)

Stphane+Pompougnac+Stephane_Pompougnac_3_convert_20090723092047.jpg

At the age of 18, Stéphane Pompougnac made his DJ debut in clubs such as the Ubu, the Colony, and the Dream in Bordeaux, France, during the mid-'80s. After finishing his studies and national service, he spent six months in London before returning to Paris in 1992 where he mixed at clubs, such as Queen, Folies Pigalle, the Locomotive, and Privilege. One year later, he became the resident DJ at les Bains et Douche . Albert De Paname ostensibly first introduced him to Jean-Louis Costes although Pompougnac had worked as a waiter for Costes some ten years prior at Cafe Costes in Les Halles. This time, however, Costes offered Pompougnac a more coveted position: resident DJ at the famous Hotel Costes. He accepted.
Hotel Costes is one of France's most famous and is frequented by sports stars and celebrities of the film and fashion world. Pompougnac released his first CD in 1999, titled Café Costes. Pompougnac's second CD, Costes, La Suite, met with more success and the song "Sympatique" was used for a car ad in France sending record sales over 100,000. His first two albums were released in France through Barclay Universal; his increased success, however, saw a deal with MSI for his third compilation, Etage 3, released in October 2000. His first three compilations together sold nearly half a million copies. Pompougnac also spins for Les Venues de la Mode (the fashion Oscars) and has provided the music for various fashion shows by Gucci and Yves Saint-Laurent.

Gotan+Project.jpg

Gotan Project is a musical group based in Paris, consisting of musicians Philippe Cohen Solal (French), Eduardo Makaroff (Argentine), and Christoph H. Müller (Swiss, former member of Touch El Arab).(Wikipedia Gotan Project)

History
Gotan Project formed in 1999. Their first release was "Vuelvo Al Sur/El Capitalismo Foraneo" in 2000, followed by the album La Revancha del Tango in 2001. Their music is clearly tango, but also uses electronic elements such as samples, beats, and breaks.
Live material was also broadcast on Gilles Peterson's world music show Worldwide on BBC Radio 1 in May 2004. Philippe Cohen Solal has also released a DJ set: Inspiración Espiración - A Gotan Project DJ Set Selected & Mixed by Philippe Cohen Solal (2004). This album is a compilation of classic tangos from the likes of Anibal Troilo, Ástor Piazzolla and Gotan Project remixes. The album also includes a bonus CD with the track "La Cruz del Sur" - which was meant to be included on La Revancha del Tango, but did not make the cut in 2001.
Before Gotan Project, Müller and Cohen Solal formed a duo called Boyz from Brazil.

Band name

The name of the trio is a play on the name of a famous tango compilation album that featured several American classical musicians who came together to record a tango album, originally released in 1982. This album, called the Tango Project, includes a rendition of Carlos Gardel's and Alfredo Le Pera's "Por Una Cabeza" which had been featured in movies such as Scent of a Woman and True Lies.
Following the renewed success of the "Tango Project" album, the modern trio then decided to give themselves a name that paid tribute to the "Tango Project", this time using a form of wordplay called "vesre" that is very common in Lunfardo, an argot of Rioplatense Spanish. This wordplay involves the reversal of syllables ("vesre" itself is "reves"―the Spanish word for "reverse"―with its syllables reversed). Thus, the word Tango becomes Gotan, the name the trio have chosen for their project in reference to the hugely-successful Tango Project album which helped popularize tango music once again.

Hooverphonic is a Belgian rock/pop group, formed in 1995.

Though early on categorized as a trip hop group, they quickly expanded their sound to the point where they could no longer be described as a lone genre, but rather encompass alternative, electronica, electropop, rock, and mixture of others..

The band originally called themselves Hoover, but later changed their name to Hooverphonic after discovering other groups were already using the Hoover name and to avoid any legal issues with the vacuum cleaner company.

On 10 October 2008, Geike Arnaert, the lead singer of the band, announced she would leave the group by the end of the year to pursue her solo career. Arnaert wants to focus on her solo career and has been working on solo material for a few months.

The last concert of Hooverphonic with Geike happened on December 13th, 2008 in Tele-Club, Ekaterinburg, Russia. It was filmed by local MTV station and will be shown on Russian TV in 2009.
Hooverphonic have said that they are currently searching for a new singer. Auditions were held through their website but it is not known whether a new singer has been selected.(Wikipedia Hooverphonic)

Fila Brazillia is an electronica collaboration from Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire in North-East England. Formed in 1990 by Steve Cobby and David McSherry. They play electronica, ambient, techno, rock, funk and dub, and are sometimes erroneously described as downtempo.
Their early releases on Pork Recordings (also based in Hull), Old Codes New Chaos, Maim That Tune, Mess, Black Market Gardening, Luck Be a Weirdo Tonight and Power Clown followed. After creating their own music label with Sim Lister, Twentythree Records, they released further albums A Touch Of Cloth, Jump Leads, The Life And Times Of Phoebus Brumal, Dicks and Retrospective.
They also released a DJ mix album for the Azuli Records Another Late Night series, Another Late Night: Fila Brazillia in 2001 and Another Fine Mess : Fila Brazillia in 2002.
Their collaborations include working with Harold Budd and Bill Nelson to release Three White Roses & A Budd (Twentythree Records, 2002).
They co-produced the first Twilight Singers LP Twilight As Played By The Twilight Singers with Greg Dulli in 2001.
Cobby and McSherry have produced more than 70 remixes for artists including Black Uhuru, Busta Rhymes, DJ Food, Lamb, Radiohead and The Orb.
Bill Hicks, the controversial American stand-up comedian, satirist and social critic 'appears' on Fila Brazillia's album Maim That Tune (1996) and the album is dedicated to Hicks.
Their music has made its mark both on small-screen blockbusters (such as CSI and Sex and the City) and cult cinema films such as Dogtown and Z-Boys, Riding Giants and Once in a Lifetime (documentary), a 2006 documentary about the New York Cosmos soccer team.
One of their more well-known songs, A Zed and two L's, appear on Jam, a black comedy sketch show by British satirist Chris Morris.
After releasing their "Retrospective" album in 2006, Cobby and McSherry quietly ended their longtime partnership.
Currently, McSherry is a lecturer in Audio Production at the University of Lincoln.
Cobby went on in late 2006 to form Steel Tiger Records with Sim Lister. Over the course of 2007, the label saw various digital releases by J*S*T*A*R*S (Cobby and Lister), Peacecorps (Cobby and guitarist Rich Arthurs) and by The Cutler (Cobby and ex-head of Pork Recordings David "Pork" Brennand).
The first formal album by The Cutler on Steel Tiger Records is to be released on July 7, 2008, distributed by Kudos Records Ltd.(Wikipedia Fila Brazillia)

Omar Souleyman is a musician from Syria. He began his career in 1994, working with a number of musicians with whom he still performs, and around five hundred studio and live albums have been released under his name. His music has reached a wider audience in recent years due to the American label Sublime Frequencies, from which he has been able to tour extensively and release two records.(Wikipedia Omar Souleyman)

The audience were pretty fired up then for the Uk debut of Syrian folk-pop cassette legend Omar Souleyman, appearing on stage with keyboardist, electric saz and an, erm, “poet”. The performance began with unexpected intensity, Souleyman declaiming righteously over a deep throbbing pulse. This quickly gave way, with the impressive keyboard player Rizan Sa’id knocking out pounding (and agreeably tinny) 4/4 rhythms and ecstatic, furiously-paced solos, keeping the performance in this Syrian rave mood for the remainder. Over this, Souleyman would prowl the stage shouting “aaaaaaAAAAAY!”, wagging his finger disapprovingly and delivering fierce couplets. All the while the aforementioned “poet” whispered in his ear, so often in fact that I began to wonder if he was in fact feeding him updates on the progress of Souleyman’s team in the Syrian FA cup final. The crowd were a batshit folk-pop moshpit by this point, and a pair of portly Syrian chaps couldn’t resist the rhythms, clambering on stage to gyrate, one with markedly more enthusiasm than the other. “aaaaaaAAAAAY!” called Souleyman. “aaaaaaAAAAAY!” responded a crowd gleefully enjoying a music which was probably so alien to their normal choice of listening material, but who had been fully converted on the road to Damascus.

Backstage Sessions : Fleet Foxes - Innocent Son from Hard to Find a Friend on Vimeo.

You left me there
Waiting at the bottom of the stairs
with my eyes closed
Holding my right hand in my left
there is no time for
hesitation now
you come or go
or go

rust suddenly falling beside me on a ghost of a morning
riding in sorrow to the harbor
Far behind oh me the bodies of my friends hanging alone alone again

Some twisted thorn tells me you saw me in the night with another
keep all my promises to break them I am no oh no,
Innocent son.
you run rabbit run

NME Band also debut new songs during Pyramid Stage set
Jun 26, 2009

Fleet Foxes debuted two new songs at their Glastonbury performance this afternoon (June 26), playing to a huge crowd of fans in the afternoon sunshine.

Before starting the band's set, Robin Pecknold joked that he was nervous about the huge crowd who had turned out to see the band’s Pyramid Stage performance.

"It's a pleasure to be terrified by you all!" he said to the mass audience.

Pecknold was in a jokey mood throughout the gig, at one point speaking to the crowd in a west country accent, before launching into an impromptu burst of George Michael's 'Freedom '90'.

Back-to-back performances of fan favourites 'White Winter Hymnal' and 'Ragged Wood' sent the crowd into raptures, with many singing along word-for-word.

'Oliver James', meanwhile, had the majority of the crowd clapping along.

The two new songs debuted by Fleet Foxes at the gig showcased two aspects of the band – with the first a gentle strum with harmonies, and the second a raunchier, rockier affair.

Before playing final song ‘Blue Ridge Mountains’, Pecknold also bigged up Neil Young and Fairport Convention - both of whom are also on the Glastonbury bill - calling the acts "awesome".

Fleet Foxes played:

'Sun Giant'
'Drops In The River'
'English House'
'White Winter Hymnal'
'Ragged Wood'
'Your Protector'

Röyksopp (Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈɾøʏksɔp]) is a Norwegian electronic music duo from Tromsø, composed of Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge. The group formed officially in 1998 and released their debut album Melody A.M. on Wall of Sound in 2001.(Wikipedia RÖYKSOPP)

Many Röyksopp tracks have been used in commercials or as background music in television programs and movies.
The song "Eple" (literally "apple" in Norwegian) was licensed by Apple for use as the welcome music to the company’s Mac OS X Panther operating system, playing the first time a user booted a new Mac.

It was also used as the music for the title sequence for BBC World’s Click Online (now Click) and as background music during DJ talk on Virgin Radio.
A small snippet of the song also is used for the station ID for American public television station KLRU, as well as for their identical production logo featured at the end of their productions such as Austin City Limits. Several songs including “Circuit Breaker” and “Only This Moment” were used in an episode in the Danmarks Radio's consumer programme, named Rabatten.

Röyksopp's first single "So Easy", originally released on the Tellé label before their commercial breakthrough, became popular in the UK after it was used in a T-Mobile advertisement. The song was re-released as a single in the UK, combined with "Remind Me".
Currently "Remind Me", one of the two Röyksopp and Erlend Øye collaborations found on Melody A.M., can be heard in a Geico car insurance commercial in the U.S.

The commercial is the fourth of the "It's so easy a caveman could do it" ads, and features said caveman in an airport terminal when he comes across the inflammatory ad campaign. The song is also heard in the background of Geico's caveman site and is on the iPod's playlist.

"Follow My Ruin" was included on the soundtrack of FIFA 06, the 2005 edition of EA Sports' long-running soccer video-game franchise. The single "What Else Is There?" was also used in an O2 television advertisement in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia during 2008. It was also used in the 2006 film Cashback and the 2007 film, Meet Bill.

A remixed version of "What Else is There" played in an episode of the popular HBO TV show Entourage.

Bibio, Ambivalence Avenue [Warp, 2009]
Just a few months after a fantastic album and EP for Mush, Stephen Wilkinson releases his first album with Warp. Ambivalence Avenue, unlike previous Bibio releases, does not stick to the formula of acoustronic folk. Here Bibio mixes vocal folk with a lot of other styles of music.

Those of you who have been following Mr. Wilkinson closely might have known he's had more up his sleeve, with his more experimental DJ sets and his instrumental hip-hop experiments as Duckular. It seems rather than devoting time to that alias he is attempting to weave that sound into Bibio, and thankfully, he does it with great success. When I first heard Bibio was going this direction with his debut for Warp, I worried the album might sound too disjointed, but somehow he's pulled it off, going from folk to funk to hip-hop to indie rock with ease.

"Jealous Of Roses" for one example will immediately turn heads, with its 70s funk and vocals. It's completely out of left field for Bibio or even Warp, but it works. Bibio's first three albums had already confirmed to me that he was one of this decade's musical prodigies; Ambivalence Avenue just shows that he's no longer abiding by any self-imposed constraints. A fantastic signing and record for Warp.SUNDAY, 28 JUNE 2009

Ólafur Arnalds

Iceland

lafur+Arnalds+olafur_convert_20090707175240.jpg

“Breaking classical music out of the tweed jacket and loafers and putting it into a t-shirt and trainers…”

At only 21 years of age, Ólafur Arnalds is Iceland’s latest export. Having already sold out The Barbican Hall in London, toured major European festivals and having opened for Sigur Rós on their most recent European tour, the future seems bright for this young, extraordinary talent.

Fragile and emotional neu-classical music would maybe be the best term to describe Ólafur Arnalds’ music. Combining classical instrumentation with an ambient aesthetic there are obvious comparisons to fellow Icelanders Sigur Rós and composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, but Arnalds is sculpting his own epic, string-laden compositions.

Only 21 years of age, Ólafur hails from the suburban town of Mosfellsbær, Iceland just a few kilometres outside Reykjavík. He has immersed himself completely in the world of delicate symphonic compositions in a near weightless orchestral undertaking. Mixing strings and piano with loops, ambiance, electronics and beats. Debut album ‘Eulogy for Evolution’ (2007) takes the listener on a journey, representing different periods in life, from birth to death. The follow-up 5-track EP ‘Variations of Static’ was then released in May 2008, while keeping the classical foundations of his debut album, here Arnalds incorporates crackling electronics and the dead voice of a machine; like vague memories of tradition lost within the digital age we all live in.

For the past year, Ólafur has been playing unique venues and festivals across Europe and North America delivering an oasis of calm in a frenzied world. Accompanied by a string quartet, Ólafur takes the audience on a dreamy, almost meditative, journey. The magical atmosphere he creates attracts an audience who wouldn’t usually expect to find themselves at a concert including a string quartet and piano.

Ólafur finished his 6 month long 2008 tour at the end of November and already started working on his second full-length album, scheduled for release in fall 2009.

The Weepies are an indie pop-folk band fronted by singer-songwriters Deb Talan and Steve Tannen. Their music has been described as "subtly intoxicating folk-pop".(Wikipedia The Weepies)

History
The two musicians, who were both active in separate singer-songwriter careers, met in 2001 at a show Tannen was playing at Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They quickly found a deep musical bond and began playing together. In 2005, they were signed to Nettwerk Records.

Talan and Tannen are married and reside together in Topanga, California. Talan gave birth to a baby boy, Theo Samuel Tannen, on October 7, 2007.
Other supporting members who have recorded and toured with The Weepies include Meghan Toohey on keyboards and electric guitar.
The band received mainstream attention with their second album, Say I Am You. In February 2006, the album reached #1 on iTunes' list of most-downloaded folk albums in eight countries.
The single "World Spins Madly On" from that album hit #1 on iTunes' US folk song charts.
In 2007, the band collaborated with Mandy Moore, writing and playing on her new album, Wild Hope. The Weepies' recorded their next album at home, with the aid of fellow musicians and friends; Hideaway was released in April 2008 by Nettwerk Records. Hideaway marked the Weepies' first entrance into the Billboard Top 200, charting at #31 and selling 14,000 copies in its first week.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beginning in April, 2009, the Weepies have been recording music for a new album in their home studio. Song titles mentioned in the band's updates on Twitter include: "Lost Kids", "Hard to Please", "I Was Made for Sunny Days", "Red Red Rose", "Be My Thrill", "Hope Tomorrow Is a Sunny Day", "Let My Love In", "Tiny Binds", "Talking 'Bout the Way It Was", "Still Not Satisfied", "Yo Picasso", "Please Speak Well of Me", "Empty Your Hands", "We're Going Home", "Hummingbird", "Pretty Dress and Combat Boots", and "They're in Love"

I was lost in the lakes
And the shape that your body makes
That your body makes

And the mountains said I could find you here
They whisper the snow and the leaves in my ear
I traced my finger along your trails
Your body was the map
I was lost in there

Floating over your rocky spine
The glaciers made you and now you're mine

I was moving across your frozen veneer
The sky was dark
But you were clear
Could you feel my footsteps?
And would you shatter, would you shatter?
Would you?

Your soft fingers between my claws
Like purity against resolve
I could tell then there that we were formed from the clay
And came from the rocks for earth to display

They told me to be careful up there
Where the wind rages through your hair

Anni Rossi is a singer, violist and keyboardist from Minnesota.

With her acrobatic vocals, multifaceted songwriting and plunking strings, Anni Rossi sounds like a lovechild of Andrew Bird and Regina Spektor carried to term by Emily Haines. At only 23, she already shows the sophistication of a much older artist.

Classically trained as a viola player, the Minnesota native gained some internet buzz with her string-plunking, foot-stomping interpretation of Radiohead's "Creep" in 2006. The following year, her self-released album Scandia gained her a contract with 4AD. Recently, she recorded her full-length album Rockwell with legendary producer Steve Albini. The album finds her exploring other instrumentation beyond her usual viola, adding layers of depth to her already complex style. Rossi has spent her time lately supporting the Ting Tings and Electrolane at shows through the U.S. and Europe.(LAUNDRO MATINEE SESSIONS) here
