Seefeel.jpg
Seefeel formed in 1992, when guitarist Mark Clifford and drummer Justin Fletcher met vocalist Sarah Peacock and bassist Darren Seymour.
They released their first EPs on the Too Pure label in 1993. Stylistically situated at the intersection of dream pop/shoegaze and ambient techno/IDM, their music has a distinctive sound.
This might have contributed to the band getting a contract with the seminal techno label Warp Records in 1994. Since 1996, the band has been on an open-ended hiatus.
Its members, however, have continued to release new material under different aliases. In 1996, Scala was formed by Justin Fletcher, Daren Seymour and Sarah Peacock together with Mark van Hoen.
Mark Clifford has been releasing solo work since 1995 as Disjecta and Woodenspoon, and formed Sneakster with Sophie Hinkley in 1999.
Currently Mark is running the Polyfusia label, releasing old and new work including collaborations with Autechre and Mira Calix.

Conceived in tight attics and vacant dens when her young son Nuutti was fast asleep, this is an intimately crafted nine-song collection that unfolds like dreamlike musical ribbons for the senses and delivers the listener to a place of unhurried contentedness.

Kid A lyrics

Category :  johnny (rock,ambient etc...)
tags :

Kid A was the first Radiohead album since the band's debut, Pablo Honey (1993), whose lyrics were not officially released or published in its liner notes. Thom Yorke, who wrote all the lyrics, explained this by saying the words could not be considered separately from the music. He said he used a vocal manipulation to distance himself from the title track's "brutal and horrible" subject matter, which he could not have sung otherwise. For at least some of the lyrics, Yorke cut up words and phrases and drew them from a hat.
Tristan Tzara (1896–1963) [ Romanian and French avant-garde poet, essayist and performance artist. Wikipedia] similar technique for writing "dada poetry" was posted on Radiohead's official web site during the recording. Post-punk bands who influenced Radiohead, such as Talking Heads in their work with Brian Eno, were also known to employ the technique.

1. Everything in its Right Place
2. Kid A
3. The National Anthem
4. How to Disappear Completely
5. Treefingers
6. Optimistic
7. In Limbo
8. Idioteque
9. Morning Bell
10. Motion Picture Soundtrack

According to Tom Yorke, the album's title was not a reference to Kid A in Alphabet Land, a trading card set dealing with the work of psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan.Yorke suggested that the title could refer to the first human clone, but denied he had a concept or story in mind. On another occasion, Yorke said "Kid A" was the nickname of a sequencer. Yorke said, "If you call it something specific, it drives the record in a certain way. I like the non-meaning".

dada poetry The poetry of Dada is the art of randomness; the writings are 'absurd.' Dadaist literature was a style of poetry that revolted against a world that man's intelligence had failed to control. The works were very anti-intellectual, just like the artwork which was portrayed as 'anti-art.'

Dada Dada or Dadaism is a cultural movement that began in Zürich, Switzerland, during World War I and peaked from 1916 to 1922.The ovement primarily involved visual arts, literature―poetry, art manifestoes, art theory―theatre, and graphic design, and concentrated its anti-war politics through a rejection of the prevailing standards in art through anti-art cultural works. Dada activities included public gatherings, demonstrations, and publication of art/literary journals; passionate coverage of art, politics, and culture were topics often discussed in a variety of media. The movement influenced later styles like the avant-garde and downtown music movements, and groups including surrealism, Nouveau Réalisme, pop art, Fluxus and punk rock.Wikipedia

Fluxus name taken from a Latin word meaning "to flow"―is an international network of artists, composers and designers noted for blending different artistic media and disciplines in the 1960s. They have been active in Neo-Dada noise music and visual art as well as literature, urban planning, architecture, and design. Fluxus is often described as intermedia, a term coined by Fluxus artist Dick Higgins in a famous 1966 essay.

Tom Yorke said the album was partly about "the generation that will inherit the earth when we've wiped evrything [sic] out".However, he has refused to explain his songwriting in political terms.
Some songs were personal, inspired by dreams.
Other lyrics were inspired by advice Yorke received from friends. The lyrics, "I'm not here, this isn't happening" in "How to Disappear Completely," were taken from Michael Stipe's advice to Yorke about coping with the pressures of touring.
The chorus of "Optimistic", 'If you try the best you can, the best you can is good enough', was inspired by Yorke's partner, Rachel Owen."Everything in its Right Place" was a result of Yorke's inability to speak during his breakdown on the OK Computer tour. From Wikipedia Kid A

Stanley Donwood is the writer and artist.
For his Kid A related work, Donwood produced a series of fiery, mountainous landscapes and a series of images centered around a minotaur. Donwood cites Caspar David Friedrich and Hieronymus Bosch, as well as time spent in war museums and mountain landscapes, as influences in its bleak, post-apocalyptic style.
Caspar David Friedrich Wikipedia
Hieronymus Bosch Wikipedia

In interview , he answered. "How did you hook up with Radiohead?"
"I think that my obsession with nuclear apocalypse, Ebola pandemics, global cataclysm and Radiohead's particular brand of unsettling melody have gone together quite well. How this came about I can no longer accurately recall, as I have children and bringing them up has rotted my brain."from antimusic.com

Some of the artwork was seen to take a more explicitly political stance than the album's lyrics. The red swimming pool on the spine of the CD case and on the disc represents what Donwood termed "a symbol of looming danger and shattered expectations". It came from the graphic novel Brought to Light by Alan Moore and Bill Sienkiewicz, in which the CIA measures its killings through state-sponsored terrorism by the equivalent number of 50-gallon swimming pools filled with human blood. This image haunted Donwood throughout the Kid A project.Early pressings of Kid A came with an extra booklet of artwork hidden under the CD tray. The booklet contained political references, including a demonic portrait of then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair surrounded by warnings of demagoguery. From Wikipedia Kid A

Kid A is influenced by 1990s glitch and ambient electronic music (or IDM) artists Autechre, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Boards of Canada, along with others on Warp Records; by 1970s Krautrock bands such as Can, Faust and Neu!; and by the jazz of Charles Mingus, Alice Coltrane and Miles Davis. During the recording period Radiohead drew inspiration from Remain in Light (1980) by their early influence Talking Heads, they attended an Underworld concert which helped renew their enthusiasm in a difficult moment and band members listened to abstract hip hop from the Mo'Wax label, including Blackalicious and DJ Krush.

"How to Disappear Completely" was inspired by singer Scott Walker, a previous inspiration on the band's hit "Creep". The string orchestration for "How to Disappear" was influenced by Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki.Jonny Greenwood's use of the Ondes Martenot(electronic musical instrument) on this and several other Kid A songs was inspired by Olivier Messiaen, who popularised the early electronic instrument and was one of Greenwood's teenage heroes. "Idioteque" sampled the work of Paul Lansky and Arthur Kreiger, classical composers involved in computer music. Thom Yorke also referenced electronic dance music, saying the song was "an attempt to capture that exploding beat sound where you're at the club and the PA's so loud, you know it's doing damage".

"Motion Picture Soundtrack" a song written before "Creep" was an attempt to emulate the soundtrack of 1950s Disney films. Yorke recorded it alone on a pedal organ and other band members added sampled harp and double bass sounds.Jonny Greenwood described his interest in mixing old and new music technology, and during the recording sessions Yorke read Ian MacDonald's Revolution in the Head, which chronicles The Beatles' recordings with George Martin during the late 1960s.The band also sought to combine electronic manipulations with jam sessions in the studio, stating their model was the German group Can. The album's title track was written by computer and improvised over by the band. From Wikipedia Kid A

Limited edition promo cover
Kid A was recorded in Paris, Copenhagen, Gloucestershire and Oxford with producer Nigel Godrich. The album's songwriting and recording were experimental for Radiohead,as the band replaced their earlier "anthemic" rock style with a more electronic sound.Influenced by Krautrock, jazz, and 20th century classical music,Radiohead abandoned their three-guitar lineup for a wider range of instruments on Kid A, using keyboards, the Ondes martenot, and, on certain compositions, strings and brass.Kid A also contains more minimal and abstract lyrics than the band's previous work.Singer Thom Yorke has said the album was not intended as "art", but reflects the music they listened to at the time.Original artwork by Stanley Donwood and Yorke, and a series of short animated films called "blips", accompanied the album.
The blips have been seen as stories of nature reclaiming civilization from uncontrollable biotechnology and consumerism. Characters in the blips included "sperm monsters" and blinking, genetically modified killer teddy bears, the latter of which became a self-conscious logo for the album's advertising campaign. While widely considered to be a pop punk band,Fall Out Boy is often described as emo and cites emo group The Get Up Kids as an influence. When interviewed for a retrospective article in Alternative Press at the time The Get Up Kids disbanded in 2005, Pete Wentz stated that "Fall Out Boy would not be a band if it were not for The Get Up Kids."Fall Out Boy's main songwriters are Patrick Stump (melody) and Pete Wentz (lyrics), though they traditionally credit the whole band as songwriters. Fall Out Boy continues to evolve their sound, increasing the use of piano , synthesizers and guest artists (Debbie Harry, Elvis Costello, Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams). The band also shows a number of influences, with the opening track borrowing a chord sequence from The Who song "Baba O'Riley"and "What a Catch, Donnie" referencing Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway in both sound and lyrics. Merriweather Post Pavilion is an outdoor music venue in a place called Symphony Woods in Columbia, Maryland. It was designed by Frank Gehry in the 1960's, and they've been having concerts there from 1967 up through today. We used to go to shows there while growing up and have fond memories of times spent on the lawn. For most of the time we've been playing together, both in Animal Collective and the years before, we've tried to make music that would be deserving of an amazing outdoor listening experience. As both a name and a place, Merriweather Post Pavilion represents this for us.

Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions is the band comprising Hope Sandoval from the band Mazzy Star and Colm Ó Cíosóig, formerly of My Bloody Valentine. Their first album 'Bavarian Fruit Bread' was released in 2001. Bass player Alan Browne from Irish band Dirt Blue Gene (played bass) and co-wrote on some songs on Bavarian Fruit Bread.
Hope Sandoval continues in the vein of Mazzy Star, but here without David Roback. Creating elusive but accessible dream pop, she's joined by Colm O'Ciosoig of My Bloody Valentine, now part of a band she calls the Warm Inventions.
Sandoval's distinct vocals remain intact but what's different is the overall feel of the music; where it was once overtly shoegaze-y, Sandoval now lets up a bit, allowing in some luminescence and variety.

can_convert_20090217100936.jpg Can were an experimental rock band formed in West Germany in 1968. One of the most important krautrock groups, Can' incorporated strong minimalist and world music influences.
From Wikipedia by' Influence'
Major artists working in the post-punk genre such as The Fall, Public Image Ltd., Siouxsie and the Banshees, At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta, Joy Division and other acts like David Bowie, Talking Heads, The Stone Roses and Primal Scream have cited Can as an influence. Brian Eno made a short film in tribute to Can, while John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers appeared at the Echo Awards ceremony, at which Can were awarded the most prestigious music award in Germany,to pay tribute to guitarist Michael Karoli.

John Lydon, formerly of the Sex Pistols, formed Public Image Limited patterned after Can's early 1970s five-member lineup. Lydon was mooted as a possible singer for the band, but initial conversations amounted to nothing, much to Can addict Jah Wobble's (Public Image Ltd.) dismay (though he went on to many collaborations with the constituent members of Can himself). During their Kid A tour, Radiohead performed a cover of the song "Thief" from Delay 1968 , and have claimed Can as an influence. Mark E. Smith of The Fall pays tribute to Damo Suzuki with the track "I Am Damo Suzuki" on the 1985 album 'This Nation's Saving Grace'. The Jesus and Mary Chain used to cover "Mushroom" live in the mid-1980s. The Flaming Lips wrote their song "Take Meta Mars" off their 'In a Priest Driven Ambulance'(4th album) after hearing "Mushroom" just once. The songs bear great resemblance.

Heaven knows he's flexible now. Back on stage in Britain,Morrissey treats fans to strange contortions, fine new songs and a dose of the oldself-righteousness.

the london apartments The London Apartments are essentially one Candadian name, Justin Langlois(voice, guitar, loops) and Erin Fortier (guitar, laptop, synth). There are some touches of indietronica, atmospheres of dreampop, and the sincerity of intimate emoish songwriting. The vocals, especially, ultra breathy and high pitched vocals.
